C. Eugene Steuerle

Background
Eugene Steuerle is a Senior Fellow at the Urban Institute and the author of a weekly column, "Economic Perspectives" for Tax Notes magazine. His research interests include budget and tax policy, Social Security, health care, and economic modeling. Dr. Steuerle chaired the 1999 Technical Panel advising the Social Security Administration on its methods and assumptions. Before joining the Urban Institute in 1989, Dr. Steuerle served in various positions in the Treasury Department under four different Presidents and was eventually appointed Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Tax Analysis. Dr. Steuerle previously served as the Director of Finance and Taxation Projects and a Resident Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research; an Economic Staff Coordinator at the Project for Fundamental Tax Reform; and a Federal Executive Fellow at the Brookings Institution.
Dr. Steuerle received his B.A. at the University of Dayton, and an M.A., an M.S. and a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin.
