Henry J. Aaron

Henry Aaron is the Bruce and Virginia MacLaury Senior Fellow in the economic studies program at The Brookings Institution. Dr. Aaron has extensive research experience in a wide variety of subjects, with a focus on Social Security, health care, income distribution, and tax policy. Dr. Aaron has been with The Brookings Institution since 1968, with the exception of 1977-78, when he was the assistant secretary for planning and evaluation at the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare. Dr. Aaron has served on numerous boards and panels, and chaired the 1978-79 Advisory Council on Social Security. He currently chairs the board of directors of the National Academy of Social Insurance (NASI) and served as NASI’s vice president for many years. Dr. Aaron has also served on the faculty of the economics department at the University of Maryland and has been a visiting professor at Harvard University.

Dr. Aaron earned a B.A. in political science and economics from the University of California at Los Angeles, and an M.A. in Russian regional studies and a Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University.
